Students in Manipal don’t need to stress over schoolwork or evaluations on Saturdays. The state government recently come with the idea of ‘No School Bag Day’ on working Saturdays for government and private schools. As per the notice by the Education department, the students of government, and private schools from Classes I to VIII can skip school bags on working Saturdays. Officials of the particular school have to coordinate with the students. The notices also mentioned that teachers have to teach lessons related to life skills. They should encourage extra co-curricular activities, games, and sports among others. This is to make the school more joyful place rather a jail. “According to our instructions to both government and private schools, “No School Bag Day” has been started from September 7, 2019, which got a positive response from both the parents and as well as students.” Said, officials

It is our responsibility to make students more creative. Freeing them from burden can make them stress-free” said by Manipur Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh. Parents were glad to see their children return home with a positive attitude. Textbooks, Pencils, Notebooks which are additional weight for the students are no longer mandatory on Saturdays. “As a parent, I feel the weight of my Nine-year-old son carrying a large weight on his bag every day. I was really feeling bad to see his difficulty daily. With the state governments creative decision, I am extremely happy that even on Saturdays. My child will go to class feeling free,” says Noren Ningombam whose child is a studying 3 rd class in a private school at Imphal.
